Introduction

School of Earth Sciences provides programs in uranium geological studies, general earth sciences and land resource management which covers resource prospecting engineering, geochemistry, mining engineering, urban and rural planning, natural geography and human geography. The school has three departments, namely, Department of Geology, Department of Mining Engineering and Department of Urban/Rural Planning, offering one doctoral program in Geological Resource and Engineering, six programs in Engineering/Science Master and Bachelor degree. Currently, there are approximately 180 postgraduates, 1,500 undergraduates and 240 students working on vocational school degree in the school (as of 2015).

In recent years, the school has undertaken about 200 research projects in the fields of uranium geology, economic geology, geochemistry, GIS and tourism geology, some of which have been funded by some well-known organizations: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Chinese National Programs for Fundamental Research and Development (973 Program), Bureau of Science and Technology for National Defense Industry in China, Chinese Ministry of Land and Resources, Bureau of Nuclear Geology in China, Chinese Ministry of Education.


Staff

School of Earth Sciences has many excellent researchers and instructors including 21 professors and 17 associate professors. These researchers are dedicated to their students’ success in the field.

Facilities

The school has two key laboratories (Key Laboratory of Nuclear Resources and Environment of Ministry of Education and Digital Land Key Laboratory of Jiangxi Province), which are equipped with Electronic Probe Microanalysis (JXA-8100), Table Isotopes Mass Spectrograph (MAT-253), etc. In addition, there are two museums, that is, Geological Museum and Uranium Geological Museum where rare collections of paleontology, minerals and rocks are displayed.

Training Goals

The mine engineering realm brings uphigh engineering technique andmanagement professionals with practice and complex skills.

The persons should grasp solid basic theory and wide professional knowledge and management knowledge of geological engineering; understand the current situation and development trend of home and abroad of engineering technology in engineering geological ; master advanced modern technology to solve the problem of geological engineering has the ability of  independent engineering technique and management and strong innovation consciousness; read skillfully professional literature related to the geological engineering and write foreign references; use deftly computer technology to settle a matter the field of geological engineering.
